Can I Bring a Companion on an Angel Flight Central Flight? ✈️

Yes! Angel Flight Central passengers can bring a companion when traveling to medical care. A companion could be a caregiver, relative, friend, spouse, or someone else who helps you feel comfortable and supported during your trip. Maybe they help keep track of appointment details or simply offer a familiar face and good company. We understand that having someone by your side can make traveling to treatment a little easier.
The number of companions who can travel with you depends on your age and how you’re flying. For flights in a volunteer pilot’s aircraft, it also depends on the aircraft’s weight and balance limits.
How many companions can fly in a volunteer pilot’s aircraft?
On our general aviation flights, which are flown by volunteer pilots in smaller aircraft:
Passengers under 18 may bring up to two adult companions
Passengers 18 and older may bring one companion

Companion availability is always dependent on the aircraft and its weight and balance requirements. Our volunteer pilots fly different types of aircraft, each with its own capacity and limits. Planning a flight means considering the combined weight of everyone on board, luggage, and fuel, along with how that weight is distributed throughout the aircraft. An open seat alone does not necessarily mean another companion can come along.
Our flight coordinators will work with you to understand who you hope to bring and determine what may be possible for your flight.
How many companions can come if I’m flying Southwest?
For flights arranged by Angel Flight Central through Southwest Airlines:
Passengers under 18 can bring two adult companions
Passengers 18 and older can bring one companion
Let our flight coordinators know who will be traveling with you as you begin planning your trip.
What should I do if I want to bring a companion?
Tell our flight coordinators when you request your flight. Sharing your companion needs early helps us plan and review the information needed for everyone traveling. For general aviation flights, remember that the number of companions must be confirmed based on the specific aircraft and its weight and balance limits.
Getting to care can come with a lot of questions, and we’re happy to help answer them. If you’re unsure who can travel with you, reach out to Angel Flight Central so we can talk through the options together!
And thank you to volunteer pilot Barry for flying this trip! ✈️
