Can Angel Flight Central Fly Kids to Summer Camp?

Yes! Angel Flight Central helps children and teens travel to specialized camps. For families who are already managing appointments, treatments, medications, and the many other responsibilities that can come with caring for a child with medical needs, figuring out how to get to camp can sometimes fall lower on the list. We want kids to have the opportunity to enjoy experiences like summer camp, even when there is a distance barrier.

Recently, volunteer pilots Frank and Wade helped London travel from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Lee's Summit, Missouri, with her mom to go toCamp ChiMer. Wade's mission assistant, Jim, joined the flight and captured the photo above.

Camp ChiMer is a free overnight summer camp put on by Children's Mercy for children and teens ages 9 to 18 who have end-stage renal disease, undergo dialysis, or have received a kidney transplant.

Camps like Camp ChiMer give kids an opportunity to spend time with other children who understand some of the experiences they may have in common. They can make friends, participate in camp activities, and enjoy time with other kids in an environment designed with them in mind.

For families traveling to a camp that is several hours away, transportation can become another challenge to work into an already busy schedule. A long drive isn't always practical, especially when a child has ongoing medical needs.

That's where our volunteer pilots can help!

Our volunteer pilots help make these experiences more accessible for families who may otherwise have difficulty getting there. While many Angel Flight Central flights help passengers get to medical appointments and treatment, we also fly kids and teens to specialized camps.

Frank and Wade and Jim donated their time, aircraft, and fuel to help London and her mom make the trip to and from Camp ChiMer. We're grateful to Frank, Wade, and Jim for helping London and her mom get to Camp ChiMer this summer!
